Deaf awareness month

Update on our family

So much to tell so I’ll go fast.  My oldest son graduated and went straight to the Marines and made it! He just reenlisted, got married, and they are currently pregnant with my first grand baby.  Nate graduated, has a job and has a beautiful little girlfriend.  Josh has torn both biceps this year and has had 2 surgeries.   I personally have had my gall bladder removed due to stones and my thyroid removed due to a cancerous nodule.

It’s been hard but each day flies by.  We are doing better now… recovering and I’m dealing with a pinched nerve in my neck that’s causing my right arm to stay numb and tingling. Keep us in your prayers, We truly appreciate them all.   We also had a tornado hit 3 houses away from us and it tore up so many people houses.  So sad :(.

So my husband was working at a roofing job when another man jumped on his board and both of them went 30 foot to the ground.  It messed my hubby up bad but we can’t let that define our lives.  We will keep fighting, keep fighting.

Also there’s pictures of some of my plants that were my Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers! And my animals I’ve rescued along the way.

Nathaniel has graduated high school

Something in my brain told me to remember about this blog site!  I found out!! It’s been since 4th grade since I’ve wrote. In here so here we go.  Nathaniel has done excellent with his cochlear implants.  All throughout school he had speech therapy and vocabulary and a language specialist that pulled him out of class for an hour a day.  By the time Nate hit his Junior year, he asked that we be done with speech because it was interfering with his class and he was missing important information while being taken out of class.  We had a meeting and all agreed.

Nathaniel went to the Area Tech and got his diploma in all in the areas he studied.  He has always been great with his hands.  You take one sense away and other senses get stronger.  His strong skill is definitely motor skills. He can jump on a bike, motor cycle, car, semi, etc and it’s like he’s a natural.

Nathaniel met his now amazing girlfriend after high school. She is super friendly and pretty and I couldn’t be happier for him.  He has a job and has had one for almost a year now at the car wash.

Nathaniel I am so proud of you!!! Keep up the hard work and you will go far!!

Nate's in 4th Grade now!!!

It's been a while since I gave you all an update on Nathaniel. Yesterday, he started his first day in the 4th grade with Mrs. Harris. So far, so good. He told me he got to sit with all 4 of his really good friends and something happened and they all got separated so now he sits by a girl he doesn't really know. Maybe he will be able to sit with them again and some point in the year if they are really good.
He has his new Cochlear Implants this year which from what he says, helps him hear a lot better and clearer. Awesome! He got a couple new outfits and a couple pair of new shoes. Little man is hooked up this year so it makes it a little easier for me to get him up and get him ready.
As a parent, I worry... I was wandering when he grows up how he is going to wake up on his own, when Mommys not there to do it. So, I researched of course and there are some really cool vibrating alarms that you place under your pillow at night, and depending on how much you want to spend, the vibration gets stronger. One was called Sonic Boom, I think. It was like $100 but it was suppose to have a very good vibration technique that pretty much shakes the whole bed.  Technology is such a blessing, in this matter at least.
We have been settled in our new house for about 2 years that God led us to. We had a friend of mine that owns it and she and her husband are Gods blessings to our family. They have been great to work with, or fix things without hesitation.
Nate has came so far since age 3. He is now 9 years old, 4ft 4in, and 67 lbs. His speech and attitude and understanding has improved so much. He still struggles with communication but we are working on that daily.  Nate can do anything he puts his mind to and is a very smart boy.  I am so proud of both my children and my husband and I are truly blessed.
I'll date again soon, until then...Love you guys and thanks for reading.

Nate's in Mrs. Tarter's 1st Grade

Nate has made it to the 1st Grade :) I am so proud of him!!! When I first found out he was completely deaf in both ears, I was devistated. I mean what do I do now? How is it going to affect him in life? Well, it hasn't affected him!!!  He is awesome.... He does what all the other kids do... He struggles some with understanding big long sentences but he has only been hearing for a little over 3 years.  My boy is so smart, so athletic, he has such a comical attitude.  Nathaniel is now 6 and attends a puiblic school with no type of Special aid... just his normal speech therapist which I love :)

Everyone has been so great and supportive with Nathaniel.  Thank you so much for the time and dedication you have with him because without each and every one of you, He wouldn't have made it this far.

Can't wait to see what's going on with Nate in a year from now. Growth, Growth Growth!!!!!
